Enjoy the Gifts God has Given Us
Dear School Family,
I was amazed at the snow we had last Saturday - the weather historians say that the last early snowfall we had in Baltimore was October 10, 1979, forcing the first game of the World Series between the Orioles and the Pittsburgh Pirates to be postponed. (You know it had to be a long time ago if the Orioles were playing at a championship level...) The earliest snowfall every recorded in Baltimore was October 9, 1903 - that's early! All of this makes me think about how quickly things seem to move at times. Just as we seemed to jump from Summer to Winter (with only a tiny bit of Fall in between), so I'm sure we'll find it's Thanksgiving and then Christmas before we know it. I think there's a lesson in all of this for us, which is to take time to slow down when we can, knowing that the world is moving so fast on its own. It's important for us, whether we are young or old, to learn how to enjoy the gifts God gives, in the moment He gives them. Sometimes we may think, "I'm busy now, I'll come back to that later, when I can spend some time with it and enjoy it..." Only, later never comes - we're just as busy... So, knowing that the world around us is crazy busy, maybe we can spend this November taking a little more time to think about and enjoy the gifts God has given us, not waiting for some other moment later (which might not ever come.)
Please know of my prayers for all of our students, their families, and our teachers and staff. I pray that we might each be given the grace to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and strive each day to be faithful to Him in our thoughts, words and actions. God bless you all!
in Christ,
Fr. Arnold
