The National Geographic Bee

New Image:

The National Geographic Bee was held on Thursday, January fifth, 2012 in Harrison Hall. Prior to the Bee, middle school students completed seven rounds of geography questions in class.  These rounds produced seven finalists:  sixth graders Ashley Florenzo and Benjamin Shropshire, seventh grader Katherine Twele, and eighth graders Charles Davis, Lynsey Reckard, Kevin Roche, and Lauren Slicker.

The National Geographic Bee consisted of a Final Round and a Championship Round.  The Final Round questions reduced the number of finalists to two people:  Charles Davis and Kevin Roche.  The two semifinalists competed in the Championship Round, which was won by Kevin Roche!

The Championship Round determines the one student from Our Lady of Perpetual Help School who will take the written qualifying test to compete for advancement to the state level.

In early March, letters will be sent to the teachers of the one hundred top scoring students in each state notifying them that their students qualified to compete in their state National Geographic Bee.

Congratulations to our finalists and our winner!  We wish Kevin good luck with the written qualifying test!
The following people were most helpful with setting up and conducting the National Geographic Bee:  Mr. Edwards, Mr. Gorbachev, Mrs. Goeres, Mr. Hahner, Mrs. Sliker, Dr. Snavely, Mr. Stanley, Mr. Wall, and Mrs. Wissmann.
